Comcast
The Cisco DPC3008 modem purchased from Amazon worked well for me. Make sure you buy the DPC3008 that says it has been packaged specifically for Comcast's network.I am not entirely sure what seperates this modem from the standard DPC3008 but I heeded the Internet's warnings and my modem is now working. Comcast has to
activate the modem on their network for it to work. Follow the instructions in the modem box and be polite to the service technicians and you shouldn't have
any problems. I used the online chat help to activate the modem as opposed to the phone support and had
positive results. It took about 2.5 hours to complete the setup with Comcast so be ready to wait a while. They take $5/month off of your bill for doing this and
send you a UPS box so you can ship them back your old modem/router.
I have paired the DPC3008 successfully with an OpenWRT router (Western Digital N750). I have the Enhanced IP patches working on OpenWRT.....barely
I am not sure how long it will take me to get the patches cleaned up enough for release. Drop me a line if you want to help test.
Verizon
The Verizon MI-424WR router has an Ethernet WAN port that doesn't ship enabled by default unless you ask the technician nicely to enable it during the initial install. We have never tried this but evidently running a Cat-6e cable from the ONT to the WAN interface of the MI-424WR and then calling Verizon and asking them to enable it and break your existing DHCP lease works.
