What is PGP?

PGP is an encryption standard that works by using a public key and a private key. Your public key is shared freely and can only be used to encrypt messages and verify signatures. Your private key is stored on your computer and secured with your passphrase, and it is used to decrypt emails and create signatures. Choose a long passphrase that's hard to guess to make this protocol more secure. Encrypted emails show up as text identified as PGP encrypted with a message inside that looks like gibberish to a person, but it can easily be decrypted using only the recipient's unlocked private key.
