The Authentication Service Workbench

Simple username and password authentication is dated and vulnerable to malicious attacks. However, many companies still rely on it to authenticate their users. Researching and testing new ways to authenticate users can easily become a burden for any business – there are many options, and many factors to consider when choosing the next system to use.

As a result, we have developed the Authentication Service Workbench (ASW), allowing companies to gather qualitative and quantitative data about potential authentication systems. This application, accessible to both web and Android devices, allows users to experiment with a variety authentication systems, including ones involving biometrics and special hardware.

The ASW collects session-specific data for each method tested, such as the total amount of time spent and number of clicks, and surveys the user about their experience. Companies can then view and visualize this data to aid them in making the decision of which authentication system to select going forward.

Visualizing Data

The ASW works as a deployable test platform, which is intended to be used by enterprises to gauge user interest and efficacy of various authentication methods. To facilitate a comprehensive understanding of the performance of these methods, the ASW also provides three ways to interact with data that is collected:

  • Sortable analytics table (exportable to Excel)
  • Graph visualizations for analytics
  • Full ASW database clone
