Do you have an idea for some cool technology that might teach a lesson to Microsoft, Google, Apple, or Sony? Here is an opportunity to try it out. Tell us about it and we will provide the tools and money you need to make it happen!
How to participate?
By January 15th 2007, individuals or small teams should prepare a 1 page project proposal including:
* The goal of the project;
* A brief description of the intended design;
* The resources that will be needed to conduct the project;
* The potential impact of the project and why it should be supported;
All applications should also include a one page resume for each applicant.
A selection committee led by Prof. Agrawala will review each proposal and select 3 to 4 of the most promising projects. Reviews criteria will focus on the creativity and the potential impact of each proposal.
Selected participants should be planning to attend CMSC 498D: Introduction to Rapid Prototyping Techniques.
Resources
Selected teams will be assigned a mentor who will help them build a proof of concept for their project. They will also receive financial support (up to $5 000) for equipment and supplies necessary to build a prototype. Finally, they will have access to a dedicated server (for network and web related projects) and the CS department rapid prototyping laboratory.

As an ASE, you will receive a valuable, extensive, intense education - with coaching and support at every step of the way to ensure that, if you are willing to work, you can succeed.
All participants will begin training at Cisco's RTP (Research Triangle Park, NC) facility for a period of one year.
The following details how the program works:
During the first 6 months you will spend 90% of your time training to acquire business acumen, executive presentation and sales skills and you will learn about Cisco's technologies, business solutions, competitors and products. When not in class, you will receive reinforcement and coaching to ensure that you are building the required competencies. You will visit field sales offices so that you can shadow System Engineers (SEs) and learn more about your future job. You will work in labs to get hands-on experience. During this period, you will also earn your Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP) and Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA) certifications.
During the next 6 months, you will spend 50% of your time in advanced training and 50% of your time working with SEs, and with other internal organizations (such as the Technical Assistance Center) to gain experience working with customers. You will shadow field SEs, work extensively on labs and give executive presentations. During this time, you will also complete your Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP) and Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA) certifications.
After 12 months you could be eligible for relocation out to a field sales office, managing Cisco accounts.

Searchles is forming a beta advisory panel and would like to invite students from UMD to apply. The 30 member panel will meet once every quarter for a workshop serving appetizers, sodas, and drinks. Periodically, we may also ask members to take surveys or test new site features. The UMIACS ADAPT project is hiring student java programmers for work on various java projects using web/grid technologies in support of digital archiving projects. Named as one of the 'Holy Grails' of computing by IEEE Spectrum, long term digital content preservation is actively being researched on many fronts. Our current projects involve collaborations with the National Archives, Library of Congress, and San Diego Supercomputing.
Students will be given an opportunity to work with various xml/java technologies. The position is available during the school year and over university breaks. Applicants must be familiar with java.

The CapWIN team at the University of Maryland is looking to hire students for part-time semester employment. Students will be assisting in the development, testing, and documentation of interface software that allows for the integration of large-scale criminal databases, transportation databases, and video for the Washington Metropolitan region. This system is developed for police, fire, transportation and rescue (first responders) to allow for increased communications, data-sharing, and situational awareness.
Students will have a wide-range of responsibilities including, but not limited to:
1. Assists in developing computer programs to test, track, and verify defects in software programs.
2. Identifies, analyzes, and documents defects, questionable functions, errors, and inconsistencies in software program functions, outputs, online screens, and content.
